The photos looked good but the food was blah!
Made one feel like we ate for eating sake.
The yam whatsit squeaked of oil.
Porridge was loaded with msg.
So disappointing was the offerings were paltry and not fresh.
Avoid at all costs kind of place.
Best to pick up a sandwich opposite to quell the immediate hunger pangs and walk on
Went on a Saturday evening. Ordered herbal chicken porridge and sesame chicken porridge. Also steam pork ribs.
Atmosphere: Tables arranged too close.
Service: there is no service. Walk in, find your own seat. Queue at the counter to order.
Food. There is great variety to choose from. Servings and ingredients are a little small if you consider the price. Taste, herbal chicken porridge has a decent aroma of Chinese herbs, but for the sesame chicken porridge, there is no sesame smell.
Will I go back again? No.
The congee here is delicious, it's thick and savory and seasoned just right, I didn't need to add soy sauce or pepper to mine.
They have a wide range of congee options. My brother got the Cheesy Popcorn Chicken, I got the sesame chicken, my Mom the red grouper congee, and my Dad the brown rice Congee. Also, they offer a variety of side dishes to go with your congee. Everything came hot, which is how congee is best enjoyed.
My Dad was super happy that they offer a brown rice Congee option, since he can't eat white rice. He liked it so much he ordered it twice in one day, once for breakfast, and again for dinner.
The service is helpful, quick and efficient. Overall, my family and I really enjoyed our experience at Mun Zuk and we'd go back in the future.
It was very packed on a weekday lunch. However the turnover is quite fast and diners will leave once done. The porridge is really nice, even the plain porridge is savoury. The white chicken is also very tender and good comparable to the big famous brands. The mix porridge is nice with generous ingredients. If only the intestines were not fried, as it takes out the taste of the intestines. Generally the porridge here is of the right texture, not too watery and neither mushy and clumpy. The you tiao could be just a tad softer.
Ordered the salmon porridge set meal, which came along with youtiao and cold soya bean milk. Price wise though a bit on the higher side, the taste of the porridge did not disappoint. The salmon was not overly cooked, and the porridge base was cooked and seasoned well. The additional spring onion and fried onion bits helped with the texture. The dumpling skin did not do much to help alleviate the dish, but the crunchy youtiao which was not oily, made up for it. Good dish overall.
My superior brought us here for lunch, and recommended his favourite dishes to us. We had ordered 3 sets of Mixed Pork Congee (including you tiao & a drink), Stirred Fried Garlic Dou Miao, Poached Chicken and Fried Prawn Cake.
Luckily we came a bit earlier around 11.40am, still not that crowded. Food was served fast too. Their congee was not those watery types, quite thick and flavourful. The pig liver was quite tender (it was quite bloody when I received it, I have to placed it inside the porridge to allow it to be less raw). However, the fried intestines were hard and dried for me. Personally I prefer non fried ones. The cracker in the porridge was pretty hard.
Stirred Fried Dou Miao was well fried 不会老刚刚好. As for Poached chicken, it was so smooth and tender together with a bit of Achar aside (carrots). Achar had a bit sour & refreshing taste. Furthermore, Fried Prawn Cake was crispy & nice. You Tiao was left a side for a while, so it was not crispy at all. Homemade Barley sweetness was just nice.
Their price was a bit high, $9+ for a bowl of Mixed Pork Congee, but the ingredients in it seems quite little. Would be good to increase the portion of the ingredients given or a lower price.
Ordered set No. 13 and exchange beverage for coke zero amounting to $10.80. Dough Fritter and wantan skin were crispy. Porridge was smooth and tasty with slices of lean meat & 2 pieces of pork ball. Overall good dining experience.
Located in very happening and busy Velocity Novena square level 1, I came here because it was recommended by eat book “what to eat in novena”, after my try out, I would agree, please come here if you are having a craving of authentic Cantonese congee.
As indicated by the name , their signature is congee come with different ingredients, most of options are traditional combinations, seafood, pork liver, pork meat, three eggs and etc. by saying that , they do have some innovative ingredients out there, like Spanish pork congee.
We ordered a set of white congee with poached chicken , paired with fried dough and soymilk.
First of all, the congee is very good, they cool the rice to a very creamy level, slightly seasoned with a touch of oil and pepper. A congee place can show its real capabilities by delivering a good white congee.
Chicken is tender, juicy. Probably not as good as Boon Tong Kee, but I would say it is good enough, seasoned well, not salty at all. Chili is good as well.
We also ordered a pork liver cooked in pot, a bit disappointed, this dish is the reason I didn’t give it a 5 star, the liver is fresh, but they do not heat up the pot to the desired temperature, you can still see the blood on the liver and because the pot is not hot enough, so it remains with blood till we finish it.
We also ordered a side dish of cucumber , well seasoned , a bit pricey.
Seating is limited because of popularity, should not miss by any congee/porridge lover
